The GST Council under the ambit of the ministry of finance has decided to provide relief to taxpayers against slow processing by staggering the last dates of GST-3B filing dates. GST-3B is a monthly return form and the GST council has now provided three different dates as per the category of taxpayers.
While the current date for filing of GSTR-3B was the 20th of each month, the proposed amendment now marks three different dates which are 20, 22 and 24th of the concerned month for a declared category of taxpayers for each of these dates.
As most taxpayers were filing their returns on the last day itself which was on the 20th of the month, it resulted in a massive traffic load on the GST servers and system resulting in slow processing and irritation for taxpayers. Industry associations and trade bodies had raised this issue several times and they are glad it got resolved.
The statement by the ministry of finance read “From now on, the last date for filing of GSTR-3B for the taxpayers having annual turnover of Rs 5 crore and above in the previous financial year would be 20th of the month. Thus, around 8 lakh regular taxpayers would have the last date of GSTR-3B filing as 20th of every month without late fees”.
Those taxpayers who have a turnover of below 5 crores in the last financial year, has been now divided into two categories:
Category 1:
Taxpayers from Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Gujarat, Daman and Diu, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Goa, Lakshadweep, Puducherry, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh which constitute 15 states and Union Territories now have 22nd of every month as the last date of GSTR-3B return filing as 22nd of the month not having to worry of any late fee.
Category 2:
The taxpayers from the remaining 22 states and union territories of Haryana, Delhi, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, Chandigarh, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Bihar, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Meghalaya, Assam, West Bengal, Jharkhand and Odisha which constitute of 4.6 million taxpayers will now be able to file the monthly returns by the 24th of every month.
This above solution was proposed by Infosys, which is the managed service provider for the GST Network to unclog the network on the last days, Infosys has also been asked to improve the quality of network further by April 2020, the network currently handled 6.56 million tax forms for the month of December.
